Riyadh Metro completes rollout: World’s longest driverless train network now operational

The Riyadh Metro has officially completed its phased rollout, marking a transformative moment in Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure development. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) confirmed that the Orange Line, or Line 3, began operations on Sunday, completing the city’s extensive metro network.

Spanning six lines across 176 kilometers and encompassing 85 stations, the Riyadh Metro is now fully operational, earning the distinction of being the largest metro system in the Middle East and the world’s longest driverless train network.

The Orange Line runs 41 kilometres, linking Riyadh’s eastern and western sectors. It stretches from Jeddah Road in the west to the Second Eastern Ring Road near Khashm Al Aan in the east, significantly enhancing connectivity across the capital. Five stations are now operational along this line: Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Douh, Harun Al-Rashid Road, and Al-Naseem, with the latter serving as a transfer hub to the Purple Line.
